‘The Purpose of Life, is a Life of Purpose’ – Robin S Sharma

This quote really makes me think, to have a purpose in life is important otherwise you can just plod along and before you know it, your still doing the same thing in life without accomplishing anything or feeling good about yourself.  Have you ever thought of what your purpose is?  I truly believe my purpose in life is to try and make a difference in other people’s lives by being positive, to encourage them  to believe that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.   Why not have a go because if you don’t try you will never know.  Even if a particular project or action doesn’t work out, it just means it has set you up to try something else that will work.  Another quote I like is by Stephen King ‘You can, you should, and if you’re brave enough to start, you will’.  I had no idea whether anyone would read my blog posts, but I have slowly started to get some likes, comments and follows, which gives me the inspiration to continue.  I also started Twitter and Instagram and again over the years have gained some truly incredible followers.  You can do it too, I may not have thousands of followers, but I feel I have quality, rather than quantity.  They range from fellow writers or food lovers and photographers, even editors and publishers have followed me, and that’s a good feeling.  Sometimes you just need to go for it.  My photos might not be the best, but one day that one photograph could make all the difference, or that a blog post, story or food article will make someone smile, laugh or just make them sit up and think, yes I can do this too.

The first think to do is to try and think about what or who inspires you,  a person, a book, a picture or a quote, think back perhaps to someone in your childhood that inspired you, perhaps a teacher, family member, famous music artist or author.  Whatever or whoever it is, make a list so you can start to get excited and find your purpose in life.  I am constantly inspired by my daughters, who continue to strive and change their lives, they believe they do this due to my insistence that you can change your life if you believe you can, and sometimes you just need that encouragement or inspiration.  Something that makes you want to get out of bed in the morning and to make a difference to your life or someone else’s.

I constantly get inspired by people, I’m particularly drawn to those who are over 50 who think age is just a number, I have to admit I am one of those people, at 57 I just think how exciting I’m only 57 and looking forward to starting something new and exciting.  A friend recently asked me if we were too late to be trying something new at our age like a new business…. my immediate reply was never, never never never, is it too late to try something new and different at any age.  If the business idea doesn’t work out it could well be the best adventure or experience trying, by learning and meeting new people who then give you the inspiration for a different path.  My friend thanked me for believing in her and making her follow her dreams, she immediately felt happy and excited about the future.

This morning I received a large parcel, I had no idea what it was, when I unwrapped it I couldn’t stop smiling.  My daughters had sent me a canvas of my blog home page, to inspire me everyday to believe I can do this.  It is now the first thing I see every morning, I love it.  I know I am lucky to have such inspirational daughters, but if you surround yourself with positive people and ideas then it does have a knock on effect.

My writing inspiration at the moment is a book called ‘Discovering the Writer Within – 40 days to more imaginative writing’ by Bruce Ballenger and Barry Lane.  I previously mentioned this book in a blog post and admittedly I haven’t finished it in 40 days, but I’m nearly there.  It has made me write about different things, using my imagination and developing free writing.  So if you need writing inspiration check it out.  I found it originally in a library and later in asecond-hand bookshop, so finding inspiration doesn’t have to cost anything or at least very little.

I would be interested in hearing about your own personal purpose in life and what inspires you, writing is certainly high on my list along with spreading the word of the power of positive thinking and believing in exciting new challenges at any age.
